The Irish Whiskey and Spirits Institute offers remote training!

For both WSET Level 1 & 2 Awards, the training is completed online via webinar, spirits are dispatched in 15ml bottles for WSET Level 1 Award you will not need any support materials, however, for WSET Level 2 Award you will receive, spirits & learning materials (work and textbook).

Please note, for both WSET Level 1 & 2 Awards, you will be responsible for sourcing your own spirit samples to successfully complete the course.

Samples for Level 1:

It is recommended that candidates try a minimum of nine samples during the course of their studies. All samples should be benchmark expression of their category and style. The following list has been arranged in the order of the classroom session.

●  Vodka
●  VS Cognac
●  VSOP Cognac (well-aged for the category) or XO Cognac
●  Blended Scotch Whisky
●  Straight Bourbon
●  White Rum
●  Golden Rum
●  Blanco Tequila 100% agave
●  London Dry Gin (a second gin optional)
●  A Liqueur (optional)
 
 
Final Level 1 Exam:
 

The WSET Level 1 Award in Spirits is assessed by a closed-book examination that consists of 30 multiple- choice questions, to be completed in 45 minutes.

All examination questions are based on the published learning outcomes and the recommended study materials contain the information required to answer these questions.

A candidate is required to pass with a minimum mark of 70 per cent.

 

Samples for Level 2:

It is recommended that candidates try a minimum of 29 samples during the course of their studies. These include a variety of spirits from these categories:

  • Fruit Spirits
  • Whisky/Whiskey
  • Rum
  • Tequila and Mezcal
  • Vodka
  • Flavoured Spirits and Vermouth

Final Level 2 Exam:

The WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits is assessed by a closed-book examination that consists of 50 multiple-choice questions, to be completed in one hour.

All examination questions are based on the published learning outcomes and the recommended study materials contain the information required to answer these questions.

A candidate is required to pass with a minimum mark of 55 per cent.
